AEIOU has been conducting the Matriculation Examination throughout the length and breadth of Burma including the peripherals and migrant areas and this year it will be on the 25th instant. A three hour paper on English (including translation from English to Burmese and vice versa approximately TOFEL 5.5, or GCE A level) and a two hour paper on General Knowledge (Burma and International Affairs) will be conducted.
We discovered that many potential candidates are bewildered by our system. AEIOU is running on a shoe string budget and so please do not expect much form us, it is just an education institution of the people of Burma, for the people of Burma by the people of Burma.
Once you passed both the written and oral examination, we can provide only the travelling cost and nothing more. But once you reach Chiang Mai we take care of you. Those appearing in the international centres and inside Burma will have to take care of themselves of their travelling documents.
The O Form, I Form, M form, T form has all been issued in advance with a clear mandate and specification and if you did not fill in that specification please chose to go to other institute of learning. Now a new P form for Pure Sciences.
AEIOU is running on an open university lines, the first semester is in CMU but the second semester is on your own in your own community (you have to go back) where a specific task is given to each student. If you continue to stay on in Chiang Mai after the first semester you will not only be expelled from AEIOU but will be handed over to the Thai security authorities because your visa expires in May.
Many of the students became complacent on returning to their community, construing AEIOU as any other university of peace time studies and lamentably failed. So until and unless you agree to work hard of studying 10 hours a day with an uncomfortable life, please have second thought of coming to AEIOU.
Any student who wishes to apply for the Professional Career will have to go through the first year at AEIOU where the core subjects of English, Thai language, Computer Science and Contemporary Burmese History must be taken with an addition of another four subjects. If you failed in Thai Language you will not be admitted into any professional institute as shown below.

I am curious to know how AEIOU deals with students who are refugees. What if they have no community to go back to, and have their own family in Chiang Mai, or are just stuck there on their own? Having students study in their own community sounds very nice, but it seems like those who need the education most, will be the ones least able to comply with this requirement.
I just ask this question honestly, as I am genuinely interested in how this works, and not as a criticism of AEIOU at all.
