Cordless Phones banned in Naypyidaw area
17.11.07: Information coming from Burma said that military junta has banned the use of cordless phone in and around Naypyidaw, Burma’s new administrative capital which junta built in a remote jungle place a few years ago. Junta gave no reason for banning it, but it was believed to be security reasons.
Many phone users in Burma use cordless phones because they cannot use mobile phones.
Majority of phone users in Burma are not affordable to buy mobile phones because junta’s communication ministry is the sole provider of mobile phone services and mobiles phones are usually sold only to junta officials and their families only, leaving ordinary people to buy mobile phones from junta officials at rip-off prices.
Moreover, in Naypyidaw and nearby areas, ordinary people are officially prohibited from using mobile phones; so until now people use cordless phone instead of mobiles.
But now the paranoid Generals have banned even the cordless phones for alleged security reasons.
